Introduction: The Journey Begins In 2001, Lorene Hetherington faced a life-changing event when she lost her job as a news anchor in the wake of 9/11. With two young children at home, aged two and three, she found herself at a crossroads. Drawing on her resilience and determination, Lorene turned to her passion for real estate. Starting from scratch, she began by knocking on doors and handing out flyers, driven by a desire to help others achieve the American Dream. Her initial vision was to create a small luxury boutique brand, and her dedication quickly paid off as she sold 26 homes in her first year—a remarkable achievement considering most first-year agents sell only three homes.
Overcoming Adversity: The 2008 Recession The 2008 recession brought significant challenges to the real estate market. With buyers hesitant and sellers facing fierce competition, Lorene and her husband dipped into their savings to keep the business afloat. They adapted by deeply understanding their clients' needs and going above and beyond to meet them. Their commitment to service was unwavering, whether it was helping a single mom fix her roof or painting homes for sellers who couldn’t afford it. This dedication not only helped them survive the recession but also laid the groundwork for their future success.
Building a Legacy As the market began to recover, Lorene’s perseverance paid off. While many real estate teams faded away, the Hetherington Team thrived. They grew by finding and nurturing motivated, intelligent team members who shared their values of service and empathy. Will’s Journey: Innovation and Resilience Lorene’s son, Will, grew up witnessing his mother’s hard work and dedication. Inspired by her resilience, he decided to carve his own path in real estate. After dropping out of college, Will ventured into Airbnb management. Leveraging insights from his family, he quickly grew his business, mastering Airbnb and real estate investing. However, COVID-19 soon posed significant challenges. With travel coming to a halt, Will had to pivot. He partnered with other Airbnb competitors and vertically integrated services to control the entire rental process, from in house laundry and housekeeping to maintenance. He eventually grew the business to become the largest Airbnb management company in Ohio. After exiting that business, he returned to the Hetherington Team, bringing with him valuable lessons and innovative strategies that he uses to drive results for our current clients.
